LAWLESSNESS IN SPAIN.
The attempted assassination of Senor BallncTon, head of the Republican Union in Barcelona, is universally censured in the rest of Spain. The outrage is considered one of the many symptoms of the lawless s>irit and growing violence of pasGJUDfI among the Kepuhhsins themselves, which tlieir leadens and the civil authorities end the police have tip to the present been unable to chesk or repress, The agitation has, unfortunately, been increased mtely by Senor Sabneron'a liaving formed an electoral leagoo with the Catalan extreme Home Kulors and with thn Carl* t ,in<J tTiir.i:montane Conservative in order to defeat th* revolutionary Republicans led by tho Deputy Lcrroux. The contest will bo a bitiex one. culuunatinj in the General Election, and, in view of its .bitterness, the authorities have been instructed to enforce respect for tho law and ,to restore- tranquillity unflinchingly in Barcelona and the four Catalan provinces where this strange league is trying to secure thirty-six seats.
