AMUSEMENTS.

FULLERS’. The present company at the Alhambra Theatre is a strong one all round, and continues to draw largo and appreciative audiences. There will be a complete change of programme on Saturday. 1.0. G.T. DRAMATIC CLUB. Tho 1.0. G.T. Dramatic Chib gave their second and last performance of the 1 Trial by' Jury of John Barleycorn’ at tho Choral Hall last evening. As on the first occasion, the parts wore successfully sustained, and the audience appreciative, though not large. Tho not proceeds are to be paid over to the Hope of Dunedin Lodge, 1.0. G.T. MR ANDREW MACK. Mr Andrew Alack will commence hia Dunedin season at His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening next in tho Irish drama ‘ Tom Moore.’ Air Alack wiU bo supported bv a specially selected American company. The tour, which is under tho management of Air J. C. Williamson, has so far proved a great snccees, as did Air Mack’s first visit to Australia in 1905, and from tl>e reported merits of tho performances and plays u. is safe to predict tho same heartv support throughout this tour. A wise choice has been made in selecting ‘ Tom Aleore’ for the opening. It affords unlimited opport unities to display his wonderful ability' as an actor and vocalist. Mr Alack made his first, appearance in Wellington on Easter Saturday, and tho ‘Tiroes’ said; “ The Irish actor—or, rather, tho American delineator of Irish characters—had not readied anything like the final stages of Ms performance before he had satisfied all curiosity, fulfilled all expectations, won a thousand friends. He will henceforth tank ns highly in New Zealanders’ esteem as ever he dtl in that of the people of the Commonwealth or of his own land. : ’ RICHARDS’S COMPANY. Tho new programme submitted by the vaudeville company at His Alajcsty’s is becoming increasingly popular. Charlene and Charlene are seen in a. masterly turn, into which aro introduced juggling feats of a finished character. Fred Russell, with his Cockney doU, keeps -the fun going throughout a breezy ventriloquial act. King and Benson receive liberal recognition for their uncommon patter and song turn, and the numerous other members of tho company combine to present an entertainment as diverting us it is varied. The company will appear in tho same programme’ to-night. . MADAME AMY SHERWIN. The ’ opular prima donna, who by her success in tho Old World gained for herself the title of “The Australian Nightingale,” will pay us another vis’t after an absence of nine years, and doubtless will receive a hearty welcome from her friends and admirers. Herr Huge Gorlitz, who was married to Madame Rherwin in Dunedin on a former visit, is at present in (own making preparations for the tour, which will in all probability begin on July 1. He.rr Gorlitz. since his last visit here, has had a very remarkable career, for he has handled nearly every big musical star, such as Paderewski (whose manager he was for nine years). Kubelik (whom he toured five years), Richard Strauss (two years), and the great Italian actr-cos Eleonora Duse (two years) in the. intervals while Paderewski was resting. Herr Gorlitz is also the official agent for the Wagner Festival plays at. Munich, and bis position in the musical world is such today that no promising genius is brought out without his applying first to Herr Gorlitz and asking his advice as to ways .and means. It goes, therefore, without saying that Madame Amy Rherwin is in the right hoods. It was in Dunedin that Horr Gochtz made his first attempt at arranging concerts, and he induced Herr Benno Rcherefc to join him as conductor, which was also the beginning of Herr Scherek’s present brilliant career. Madame Amy Rherwin brings with her a young Scottish basso, Mr Fraser Gauge, of Dundee, who, although but twenty-one years off ago, has already made a name for himself iu Europe and in the' sister colonies. His success in Sydney and Melbourne was akin to a sensation, and as he is ihe true “ Scotch ’’ he will be doubly welcomed in Dunedin. In order to keep up with tho times and the popuiar requirements, Aladame Rherwin has added to her entertainment a spherosoope, on which the most perfect Jiving pictures are shown, and the “ star bill ’’ contains the story of Bob Roy in eight scenes, from the play, represented by living pictures and real Scotch scenery. The incidentals are ‘Auld lang syne,’ Scotch reeds (danced by a champion dancer to the accompaniment of bagpipes), etc., and the songs will include ‘AFGregors’ gathering,’ ‘On the banks of Loch Lomond,’ etc., to bring the pictures as rear as possible to real life. DUNEDIN SCHOOL OP MUSIC. The first of the scries of nine subscription performances is to be given in the Choral Hall this evening, when Aliss Axlino Thackeray, violinist, will make her debut in Dunedin, assisted by Aliss Emilio AI. Logic (pianist) and Airs R. Hudson (soprano). The recital promises to bo highly interesting, for Aliss Thackeray possesses cxoeUent credentials, and is to present a capital programme.
