EXHIBITION NOTES

[Published bt Aeeanoemeht.] There was a largo attendance at the Exhibition yesterday, tho band contest again proving a strong attraction. Mr W. H. Monk, of Sydney, played the organ accompaniment to a violin solo bv his brother at ’a well-attended orchestral concert in the afternoon, which appealed strongly to a large audience, and ho also played several organ solos at a concert in the evening. Mr West, who has been exhibiting moving pictures in tho small hall known as the Castle Theatre at half-hour intervals daily since tho Exhibition opened, gave his 1,107 th consecutive display yesterday evening. Mr West has now put through 1 500,000 ft, or over 285 miles of film, and some 24,000,000 photographs have, ho states, been projected on the screen. He claims that this is a world’s record. Tho Hawke's Bay Maoris gave performance in tho pah yesterday afternoon before a largo attendance. Miss Jennings, who had tho distinction of being the millionth visitor to the Exhibition, was presented with the promised gold watch by the Hon. G. Fowlds (Minister in charge) yesterday afternoon, the presentation being accompanied by a congratulatory speech. Tho ceremony was not a, public one. , , The Westland school cadets, numbering 24A bovs, with nineteen officers, arrived at tho Exhibition vesterday, and went into camp for tho usual week’s training, iho battalion numbers 270 units, and includes representatives from the Grcymouth, Beetton, Hokitika, Cobden, Tayloryille, Kumara, Runanga, and Blackball Schools. Demonstrations of bee-hamllmg and hivemanipnlation, given by Mr J. Hopkins, Government Apiarist, and his assistants, are a popular feature of tho Exhibition. The secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association reports having received the largest entry on record for tho Association’s championship meeting, to bo held on the Exhibition sports ground on Thursday and Saturday next. Ihe entries for the championship events number no loss than 156, and the various handicaps have drown tho enormous entry of 317. Theso entries are from the bestknOTm athletes in Auckland, Jievv 1 lymouth, Wanganui, Wellington, Nelson, Ashburton, Timaru, Dunedin, Gore, Invercargill, and other places, in addition to loom runners.
