THE WAITATI SHOW.

, Tho last of the summer shows—that of the Blueskin A. and P. Society—was held at .Waitati yesterday. The day was. fine, if -anvthing rather warru, and such being the .case, a, largo attendance was anticipated. The takings at tho gate came to within a few shillings of last year s total, which, constituted a record, so that, the Waitati show is not losing in popularity. During the afternoon the Waitati Brass Band'assembled, and added considerably to tho.dav's enjoyment by playing a number of selections. The stewards -and other office-bearers were well chosen, for there was not tho smallest hitch in the proceedings, and every event went off satisfactorily. On account of the dry season, cattle this year were not very largely represented, but horses showed a, marked improvement on last year's ring. The entries of , the latter were. larger, and the quality of the animals shown unquestionably of a higher standard than last year. There were no classes for sheep, and, owing to the scant recognition which the dairy produce section obtained last year, the competitions in this important branch of the farmers' art were dropped. The show of cattle was .good on the whole, and especially so among the Ayrshires. Of the latter the bulls were decidedly superior. In the two-year-old class there were three entries, and it was to the winner in this class that the judge awarded the champion card. Cross-breds and shorthorns were only fair, and the Jersev and Alderncy sections, were, without competitors. Whatever may have been lacking among the cattle was amply made up by the excellent show of horses. Some really fine animals came forward, and the quality was specially noticeable in the aged entire class. However, the other classes of draughts were equally well up. Good competition ensued for Mr T. challenge trophy awarded to the best pair of horses suitable for fanning purposes. The light horses, too, were quite up to tho standard, and entries here were equally good. The competitions, including hurdles, hi!*h jump, etc., induced largo entries, and were intently watched by the spectators. Swine and poultrv were fairly well represented, and the four classes allotted to dogs all received good support. The judge of the dogs, suggested that the classes of this section might be revised, as he formd rough-bearded collies were to be judged along with Scotch collies, and consequently some dogs could not receive jus The prize-list was published'yesterday, with the exception of the following :
