STATISTICIANS’ CONFERENCE.

Nothing has yet been reported publicly about the recent conference of State staticsticians at Melbourne, and details -will not lie available till the resolutions adopted have- been considered by the (lovernmcnts concerned.

Now Zealand’s Registrar-General, who attended the conference by invitation, explains that- the federal Government. by appointing Mr George Nibhs their statistician, took the first practical step tow-aids undertaking the preparation of statistics and census for the whole of the Commonwealth States, in accordance with the provisions of the Federation Art. As a sequel to this appointment it was iouiid desirable that there should bo a conference of State statisticians, with Mr XibC, ;t,s chairman, to emu-ider’ methods of proceiiure until the new regime.
