Mr James Curie, an old resident of Dunedin, and an old Otago identity, died at Timaru on Wednesday at the age of sixtyeight years. He came out in 1858, and was for many years a partner in the then well-known firm of Park and Curie, ironmongers. He is survived by a widow and grown-up family. The death is announced of Mr B. Dawson, a very old Otago resident, at the age of eighty years. He arrived in Otago in 1853, and was for many years stationmaster at Ravensbourne. Mrs A. Grant, wife of the District Traffic Superintendent, is a daughter of the deceased. Mr H. A. Le Cren has consented to be a candidate for one of the vacancies on the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board. A London cable mentions that M. Cambon, French Ambassador at London, has been appointed Ambassador at Berlin. A Gisborn© message says:—N«ws has been received of the death at Taupo of Mr J. S. Johnston, a well-known commercial traveller, representing Macky, Logan, and Co., and recently manager of their dishorn© branch.

It is Mr H. Spears (not M A. Spears) ex-contractor, of King street, who is to be a candidate for the Drainage Board vacancy.
