SYDNEY", September 24. A daring attempt was made to break into the Pitt street branoh of the English and Scottish Bank. An entrance was gained by tapping the electrical .wires adjoining the building, the current being utilised to fuse the iron bar over the lavatory. Thence the burglars reached tlie strong room, and partially fused a hole in the heavy steel doors, but departed without being successful. The attempt evidently occupied from 6 a-m. till 2 p.m. on Sunday, as the engineer in charge of. the electrical supply works noticed unusual fluctuations between these hours, but he was under the impression that some customer was using an extra supply.
