HARRIERS.
The St. Andrew Club held their annual i run to Waitatd last Wednesday. There was only a moderate attendance, including representatives from the 'Civil Service and St. Joseph Barriers. The runners left Pelichet Bay at three o'clock, the route taken being as follows:—Up Albany street to Leith nreet, thenco along to Dundas street, : through the Gardens and along to Haw; • thome, thence the short cut to the Upper J"^ 0 " School; and along the Main road to Wartati. Some of the members showed ;xcellent form during the run. After having done justice to a bath and redressed, the runners sat down to an excellent dinner, and. afterwards a pleasant was.' spent; in the runners reUuning..ta^Qwn:.by" the. second express, after.a very enjoyable' outing. The club request us to : thank" the : railway authorities for their assistance inmaking, the run a success, also the, Albany street School Committee for the use" of the gymnasium,; and last but not least Mr Cole-' Iran and th« ladies at the Saratogo for their hospitality. The run this week will be held nt the Bungalow Tea Rooms, Ocean Beach," as guests of Mr Bnemner (vice-president)! Members meet at the Post Office at 2.50 p.m. Entries for the championship and so fi c "' handicap close on Wednesday. The championship of the Y.M.C.A. Har- ] nets, over a distance of three miles, was run off at Forbury Park on Saturday before a number of club members and supporters. The heavy rain -which fell in the morning left the track in a very wet condition, and *ho time (16min 4kec)" put up by the winner (Sharp) must be regarded as very good. being lmin ssec better'than his last years performance. Twelve competitors started. Sharp. Scott, and Dawson led a stragt;linir field throughout. Nearing the finish Sharp broke away, and easily maintained his lead. •while a sharp tussle between Scott and Dawson saw the former gain second plac c , by about fifteen yards, with -Bolwell, some | distance away, fourth A sealed handicap was held in connection with the raco, and on working out the time 6 it was found that Scott bad gamed first place. As, however, he obtains a prize for second place in the ihampionship, he forfeits first place .in the Handicap, the final placing of which was: Dawson (4Q?ec). 16min losec, 1: Bolwell |2mra 20sec), lomin 14sec, 2. The thanks !>f the club are due to the Fortran- Land Company for the use of the course and dressing room, and also to Messrs H- Burk. W, A. Hamblctt. and G. More ton for officiating as timekeeper, haadicapper. and judire respectively. The Dnnedin Harriers were guests on Saturday of their captain (Mr Don Melville), seventeen members meeting at the Bungalow Tea Rooms, St. Kilda, to take part in the final run of the season. The services of hares were dispensed with, and a short but enjoyable run was taken along the Tahuna Park road as far as Lawver .Head, back along the beach to the ten room, and then in the opposite direction to Forbury Park, and home again. The Dunedin Anglican Harriers on SaAurday held their last run of the season from the residence of Mr W. T. Tulbovs, Brown street. The. run was up Elm row" to Upper York place, through Belleknowes and Roslyn, and down into the Kaikorai Valley at, Ross and Glendining's woollen mill. 'Before reaching the mill the members had to ford a_stream with water almost up to the knees. After Wlowing along the Kaikorai valley.road for some way in, the soaking rain, it was decided 'to turn for home, and after climbing up into Roslvn a fast run was mode back to Mr Tal'bovs's house, where a good hot bath, followed by a, cold shower, removed all fear of the members catching any cold. After dressing the members heartily partook of the spread provided by Mr and Mrs Talboys. Next Saturday the club's champiofsm'p at Forburv 1 ark will wind up the season.
