LATE COMMERCIAL.
PROPERTY SALES. Messrs J. Samson and Co. held a very successful property sale at their rooms today. A large number of prospective buyers wcro present, and tlie bidding was invariably keen. The first lot, part of section 547, Port Chalmers, was disposed' of to Mr Clulee for £125. Mr Aitkcn became tho purchaser of the second property, a shop and dwelling in Magnetic Street, PortChalmers, at the price of £l5O. There was keen competition for lot 3, which was sold to Mr Sutton for £365. For the eight-roomed house offered in tho fourth lot buyers were not lacking, and the bidding, commencing at £3OO, rose rapidly until it reflfched £6OO, at which sum the property was knocked down to Mr C. Rhodes. A modern seven-roomed house in Castle street (opposite the University) was sold to Mr R. %. Thomson for £690. The shop, with a frontage to George street, Port Chalmers, occupied by Mr Emerson, brought £3OO, Mr Sutton becoming the purchaser. Mr Sutton also bought the two brick shops in George street, Port Chalmers, offered in lot 7, for £630. The prico offered 1 for this lot rose from £3OO until it reached the above very satisfactory amount. For the butcher's shop, stable, and outhouses, Port Chalmers, occupied by Mr J.cgge, there was very keen competition. £6OO was the first bid, and the price rose slowly until £7OO was reached, when it advanced with an occasional £SO or £2O until the property was finally knocked down at £930 to Mr Maxwell as agent. Messrs Samson and Co. have every reason to be pleased with this sale, as the prices obtained are in every case satisfactory, and every lot offered was quickly disposed of. There was a numerous attendance of Anderson's Bay residents and l others at Messrs E. L. Macassey and Co.'s rooms today, when that firm offered for sale for removal the well-known building at the present terminus of the Anderson Bay tram line (known as Ross's corner). There was brisk competition, and it was ultimately secured by Mrs Ross for £lO7 10s. The demolition of this building is necessary to enable the extension of the tram line to be carried out.
Messrs E. L- Macassey and Co. report having sold the following hotels last week : —On behalf of Mr 8. W. Geddes, the lease, furniture, and effects of the Marine Hotel. Port Chalmers, as a going concern, to Mr Jolin Milne (late of the Shamrock Hotel, Invercargill); on behalf of Mr F. Carter, the lease, furniture, and effects of the Ancient Briton Hotel, Naseby, to Mr C. Mann.
