CITY POLICE COURT. (Before H. Y. Widdowson, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness.— Two first. offenders were each fined ss, in default twcutv-four hours’ imprisonment.—John Guinness Hornsbv (a man of seventy-one years of age) was lined 20s, in default forty-eight hours. Disorderly Behaviour.—Lawrence East nnd_ William Newton were charged with having, on the 10th inst., created a breach of the peace in Rattray street by fighting. Newton pleaded guilty, but East (for whom Mr B. S. Irwin appeared) denied being guilty of the offence. His defence was that he was first assaulted, and was compelled to take bis own part.—After hearing evidence, His Worship said he would give East tho benefit of the doubt and dismiss the information against him. Newton would be fined 20s. in default seven davs. By-law Case.—For having no light on bis vehicle after sundown, Henry Madden was fined 5s and costs (7s). Breach of Licensing Act.—For.being on licensed premises while a prohibition order was in existence against him, William Mullens, who pleadei guilty, was fined 60s and cost? (12s). —Thomas Mce, charged with accompanying the last_ defendant on to licensed prenaisis, knowing him to he a prohibited person, pleaded guilty His Worship said this was rather a sericus matter, the maximum penalty provided for by the Act being £lO. Defendant would he fined 40s and 12s costs.

Maintenance.—Annie Nixon proceeded against her son, Robert Nixon, for arrears of maintenance allowances, amounting to £1 15s, and for the continuance of her support at the rate of 5s per week. Mr Ernslie appeared for complainant; Mr B. S. Irwin for_ defendant —At the suggestion of the magistrate the case was adjourned unt’l Tuesday next for the production of further evidence.
