PRINCESS ENA'S MARRIAGE.
The following corerpondence took place between the English Church Association and the Prime Minister: “13 and 14 Buckingham street, W.C., “ London, May 1, 1906. “To the Right Hon. Sir Henry CampbellBannerman, G.C.B.* M.P., First Lord of the Treasury. “ Sir, —In view of the reported intention of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to bo present at the wedding of her Royal Highness the Princess Ena, accompanied, as it will be, with all the customary ritual of the Church of Rome, the Council of the Church Association desire to enlist your great influence in order to prevent a most dangerous departure from constitutional usage, if the son of the King of England, and HeirApparent to the Throne, were to ‘ assist at ’ the celebration of the Romish mass, which, as you are aware, is required' by the Papal communion on all such occasions. It is obviously important that the repudiation of the Reformation, to which the Princess has unhappily been induced to pledge herself, should be shown to be merely her own personal act, and that it does not in any way compromise the heartfelt adherence of our own Royal House to that formal rejection of the mass, with all its attendant superstitions, to which our Royal Family are so deeply and solemnly committed before God and man. “ I have the honor to remain, sir, your obedient servant. “ Alex. W. Cobham, Chairman. “10 Downing street," Whitehall, S.W“May 26. 1906.” “ Sir, —In reply to your letter of tlie Ist inst., the Prime Minister has directed me to say that ho does not discern any departure from ordinary usage in the attendance of the Prince of Wales at the marriage ceremony of Princess Ena and the King of Spain. “ I am, six*, your obedient servant, “ Arthur Ponsonbt. “ Alex. W. Cobham, Esq.”
