A LOST BATTLESHIP
' • THE MONTAGU ABANDONED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, August 6. The Admiralty has finally abandoned its efforts to refloat the battleship Montagu, which went ashore recently. Heavy seas Lave seriously weakened the vessel’s hull, and rendered her unfit for future service. [The battleship Montagu (Captain Adair, 14,000 tens. 16 guns, 19 knots) went ashore early on the morning of May 30, during a dense fog. on Lundy Island. ‘She got firmly fixed on the rooks, her bottom was holed in several places, and her lower compartments, engine rooms, and boiler rooms were, soon flooded. Battleships, cruisers, and tugs were despatched to the assistance of the Montagu, but from ilia first it seemed probable that she would be a total loss. Shutter Rock, where she struck, was made famous' bv Kiugslev in his ‘Westward Ho.’ All the crew i<nd officers were saved.j
