THE OTAGO REP. TEAM.
TO THE KDITOII.. Sir,—l would like to bring under the notice of the Otago selector the claims of a certain back for rep. honorsl Against laranaki it was a "noticeable fact that there was a lamentable lack of cohesion among the half-backs in playing the attacking game, and I would advocate the claims of Lomas, of the 'Varsity Club, for tho noxt rep. team. With the 'Varsity three-quarter line and scrum half in the team, it am be seen at a glance that the 'Varsity baek game is strictly adhered to, and with Lomas as a connecting link one could safely look forward to a brilliant attacking rearguard. The combination of the 'Varsity is well known, and for a little further proof, look at. the game the Light Blues' rearguard—behind a beaten pack of forwards —played against Alhambra on Saturday. While recognising, to a certain extent, that the claims of Bennet, or even King, are to be considered, I am of the opinion that the ' Varsity man in the team will make the improvement that is needed. His defence is as strong as King's, and surpasses that of Bennet, and behind the strong forward team of Otago his inclusion would effeet a big improvement on the ba<;k play that was displayed against Taranaki. —I am, etc., E.J.L. August 4.
