SWIMMING. The meeting of delegates of the Otago lentre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimaing Association was held on oaiuidiy .light; present. —Messrs J. T. Prain (in th cliair), A. H. Gallagher, A. Cannon, F. Butterfield, and J. C. K. Sibbald. Mr Ken Bassett, delegate at Christchurch, wrote particulars of the recent meeting •>f the Council at Christchurch. He com nunicated to the Council the Otago Centre’s i dnute tv Mr Archie Macmillan, and the secretary of the Canterbury Centre had arranged with the officials of the Lyttelton Club to give Mr Macmillan a welcome. He (Mr Bassett) had also written Mr Macmillan, but had received no reply so far. The Council had increased the Otago Centre’s grant to £lO,. this being on the same basis as Wellington and Christchurch, which received £ls each. It was practically decided to give special certificates for records made by New Zealanders, as dis tinct from New Zealand records, Mr Atack to submit specimen certificate at next meeting of Council. The sub-committees appointed did not recommend altering any previous records passed. 'The Council could not see their way to create a precedent by granting silver medals to girls, however well des rved, funds not permitting ; while similar good performances to those in Otago were regularly made by \\ anganui ladies. Phe Council approved of the Otago medal scheme, and had sent circulars, giving th m information and ex tracts from the Otago Centre’s circular, in the hope of doing good to the sport. Extracts from schoolmasters’ letters and comments were also forwarded. There wa. a long discussion and criticism of the transference of the Royal duinane Societv branch, which 4 was at last satisfactorily arranged. A sub-committee were appointed to deal temporarily with the business until delegates were appointed by the centres. pointed to deal with it on arrival.—lt was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Butterfield and Gallagher, that it be a recommendation to the delegate that when the matter of the Humane division comes on the Centre are prepared to support the amalgamation.—The Secretary reported that he liad still received no reply from Invercargill in the matter of the baths. If no reply is received within a fortnight. Centre to try to formulate their own scheme.— H was announced that Mr Archie Macmillan, ex-champion of Scotland, and holder [ of the record,:'had intimated, his intention [of joining the Otago Swimming Club. He would be welcomed at a smoke social on the 27th inst,, all swimmers being heartily itivited to attend and take part. The members of the Dunedin Gun Club held a competition on Saturday for a prize presumed by Mr A. Cavic. The conditions ■wire 18 bird**, unfcnowp angles. The day •was very rough, and a strong wind made good snooting almost impossible. The match resulted in a win for Mr W II Skitch with 13 kills, Messrs R. Marton and W. Scott ticing for second place with 12 kills.
