ST. MARY’S CHURCH.
The annual report of the Vestry of; Sit Marys, Momington, states:—The year's receipts have been more than sufficient •to meet the expenditure, and a surplustof £lB lUs Ad is carried forward; Hits Ferry having resigned tho position of organist owing ri? r marriage, a resolution was passed / Vestl 7 expressing their appreciation of the manner in which she had performedher duties and wishing her every happiness, i' i"j killy, having returned. from England, ■ has been appointed to the; position of organist and choirmaster, and is devoting a conadeniblo portion of liis time to training boys as choristers. Wo feel sure we voioo the feeling of every parishioner when we say that the resignation of the vicar. Rev. C. S. Bowden, was received with deep regret." During his twelve years’ pastorate be has done much to build up- the church m this district, and has shown himself to be a kind, consistent servant of GodOwing to the very strong opinion expressed by the vicar, no opportunity was offered you of giving him a public farewell. He is now taking a well-earned rest of four months before entering upon his new cure. The Rev. Canon Neild will be • with : us, about the Ist August, and we have .every confidence that bis ministration will be approbated by you. Relying upon the support of the parish, the Vestry has fixed the stipend at £250 a year and allowance for house rent until a parronago is provided—* towards tho rent liie Ladies’ Guild - have promised an. annual subscription of £3O, for which our sincere thanks are due. Until the Rev, Chnon Neild takes up his duty ar.rangements have been made with the Rev. ■H. J. Edwards to conduct the services. Acting upon medical. advice, Mr Statham has, after! many years’ service, felt compelled to resign his office as superintendent or the Sunday school, and his place lias been filled' by Mr R • Bentham. The building fund for a new church has reached tho aim of £159 4s 6d, all voluntary subscriptions. The Ladies’ Guild have again ooma to the front and donated £SO; Mrs Geo. Burnett also raised £ll by means of a drawing room sale. There are two matters which require attention—viz., the enlargement or rebuilding of the church, and tho erection of a parsonage—and it would bo advisable to consider them at the annual meeting. The Vestry desire to thank the choir, Sunday school teachers, and district visitors for their self-denying work in tho parish, and also Mr Filkins for playing the oigan at the Thursday evening acrvioos.
