MEAN TO ENTER POLITICS

The American Federation of Labor, with a membership of two millions, are prepared to black list candidates for public offices who are antagonistic to labor. The society are sending ro Congressional candidates a list of questions to be answered. These include a pledge to support an eight-hour day in all Government contracts.
THE SWEATING REVELATIONS.
MELBOURNE, July 14, (Received July 14, at 10.40 a.m.)
In reference to the sweating revelations at Sydney, the inspector of factories here states that the conditions in Melbourne were just as bad prior to the introduction of a Wages Board, which had secured fair all workers.
A FAMOUS FOUNDRY CLOSES DOWN
MELBOURNE, July 13. The Phcenix Foundry, Ballarat, which in the hevday of its prosperity manufactured over £1,250,000 worth of locomotives and railway rolling: stock, has closed down. The main causes for this step are the withdrawal of Government orders for locomotive construction and the absence of any regular demand for mining machinery.
