For two or three months (1840) the settlement was called Britannia, but in September of that year it was given the name which is hag held since—Wellington. "D.M.," Port Charmers.—Tho Melbourne Cup trophy was dropped as a regular thing after Tarcoola won in 1&93, but if you are betting do not forget that a trophy was given in Clean Sweep's year (19C0). There is only the money now.
