ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES.
(SPECtAT. TO TH3 STAR.] WELLINGTON, March 23. A return showing the movement of population in New Zealand during the quinquennial period 1901-05 has been issued from the office of the Registrar-General. On 51st December, 1901, the population (excluding Maoris) was 787,657, the increase during the year being; By excess of births over deaths 12,857, by excess of arrivals over departures 6,522, or a total increase of 19,379, or 2.52 per cent, on the population of the previous year. The figures for the following years are : 1902 Population 807,929, increase by excess of births over deaths 12,280, increase by excess of arrivals over departures 7,992; net increase 20,272, or 2.57 per cent. 1903 — Population 832,605, increase by excess of births over deaths 13,301, increase by excess of arrivals over departures 11,275; net increase 24,576, or 3.04 per cent. 1904 Population 857,539, increase by excess of births over deaths 14,679, increase by excess of arrivals over departures 10,555; net increase 25,034, or 3.01 per cent. 1905 Population 882,462, increase by excess of births over deaths 15,621, increase by excess of arrivals over departures 9,302; net increase 24,923, or 2.91 per cent.
