The Government Commercial Agent in the East has informed Mr Carruthers, the Sfale Premier, that Chinese merchants at Hongkong were evading the Chinese boycott of American flour by rebagging :t and labelling it Australian. As the fl .u----is of inferior quality, the agent reported that the practice was injuring the Australian article. Mr Carruthers advised Mr Deakin, who has stated that after seeing the reports he had communicated with the Home Government and also direct with the East, to have the matter stopped.
