AMBULANCE SATURDAY.
A preliminary meeting to arrange for the Ambulance Saturday street- collection on the 24th inst. was held in the St. John Ambulance Society rooms .last night. Dr W. J. Will, J.P., presided, and explained the nature of the work for which funds are to be asked, particularly the .distant nursing scheme. - At the, conclusion of his Temarks the .following 'ladies volunteered to .take charge at street cdmers : Mesdames Beadle, Reeves, Cardale, Metcalfe, 'Forrester, "Will, W.'Henderson, J. E. Bone, / P.- Dick, Mißse* Hobepr, Grow, Rcas, Fisher, and members of the Missionary Training' Institute and Salvation Army. Another meeting, will be held next Monday to' make final arrangements. • ' ' The Council of Churches last night received a letter from the . secretary of the ' St. . John AmbolaJnoe Society, ' stating that the scope of that body's work had been enlarged by the undertaking of district nursing among the sick poor, and asking that the various churches should hold ah armnal collection on the Sunday following Ambulance Saturday, also that ministers ; should notify their congregations' publicly of the Ambulance Saturday street collection. A number of members of the Council of Churches expressed hearty sympathy with the work of the St. John Society. The Rev. W. A. Sinclair pointed out that it rested with individual churches whether or not they would take up such a collection, and it was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the various ministers and churches, and the secretary was instructed accordingly.
