CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.
Following is a digest, of the reports to be presented to the City Council at. tomorrow night's meeting: The Works Committee recommend that- a gully be put in at Forbury. read, opposite thiol's property, to connect with the street sewer, estimated cost £7 10s. They report, that the following applications have been granted: Inspector of I'elegE&phs to erect a telegraph pest lieair the fountain iu Custom-house square, tire department to be asked ;to erect an ornamental pole; Mr A. Jeffs to build a dosed-in balcony along upper storey of addition to Masonic Hall. Moray place, main work being in brick, the stairway of wood. That the following applications naye not been, granted:—Mr John M'Cormack, to make alterations and additions to Mr T. Ashton's shop, King Edward street, South Dunedin; piesent back wall and part of roof to be left as at present, other walls to be of brick, and frontage of glass. Mr John M'Kechnie., for removal of weir in the Water of at the back of tho baths reserve, Brook street. The Maori Hill Borough Council, for an, undertaking to indemnify tlie Council against all nobilities and claims in consequence of old bridge at Woodhaugh being left open for traffic. It lias been, auqjtsted that a. bar and padlock bo put on the bridge for .City Corporation use only. The city engineer has been, instructed 'to act as foOows : —Restrict tho permits to tunnel in the streets, same to be mauitained for one month after completion of tho work, ;uwl tho amount of the deposit to be increased to £2; re complaint from Mr T. Smith of rabbish finding its way into has paddock from the tip adjoining same in Law street; act re Cai-gill .and C<i!edon:ui:n roads reinstatement, Cargill road fcotpath, ;md replacement of footpath over Forbury road storm-water aqueduct. Tho city solicitors have been instructed to withdraw proceedings re erection of a vashiiouse iu. Regent street, South Dunedin. A water cart has been offered for sale to the Gore Borough Council for the sum of £45, delivery at Corporation yard. The 'Mornington Borough, Council have been requested to remove the tram-way rails from the Qty streets. The Telegraph Department lias been requested to remove the telephone posts on the footpath on the east side of William street. Tho Water CommiLiee reconimead that fire plugs be placed on the water mains in Catherine, Bowen, and Moirisc«n streets, Cavercham. at. a cost of £57; and report that a mmisf-ioii of half water rates, amounting to 7&. has been granted to Mr J- J. Lee, coi house in Sydney street, South Dunedin. 'The tender of Messrs A. and T. Burt. Limited, for th- supply and delivery of cast-iron pip?.* ;i nd other waterworks plant for reticulation of Maori Hill has been accepted for the following anioroits: —lf 6hrp delivers at Dunedin,' £3,163 19s lOd ; extra if ship delivers at Port- Chalmers. £sl 10s 9d; total, £3,215 10s 7d. Authority has b'vj) granted to rail for tenders for the purchase ;tnd removal of cut timber on the site of the Leith reservoir. The Reserve* Committee recommend that one-half wards cost of "Toction of an aviary in the ISotanic Gardens, suitable *'cr pheasants +o be presented by lite Ota go Acclimatisario:i Society.
The General Committee report that, authority lias been grnnted to procure eight ].-atent feed boxes for sanitary stables (cost 12jj 6d each), and that the district health officer had been n*»'tfied of a complaint having been received of the sn-oke issuing fiem the chhun-.-y of tho Pha-nix Confectionery Company, Maclaggan sti-cet. The Tramways Committee report that the iollowing clainxs hail been declined : Messrs J. Anderfon and Co., for the sum or £ll 4s, which tho electrical engineers advise they arc not entitled to : Messrs Callan and Gallaway, on behalf of Mr R. A. Western, of the" sum of £175, in conl nection with King Edward street widening ; that a reply kid been sent to Messrs Duncan and M'Gregcr that the electrical engineers have been instruct«l to use every means in their power to minimise the inconvenience caused by smoke from powerhcasc chimney, complained of by themthe electrical engineers had been instructed to act in erecting an incandescent cluster light at tho Glen road. The Electric Power and lightmg Committee report that- they have instructed the electrical engineer to proceed with the erection of the sub-station at Halfway Push, at a cost not exceeding £6OO, and to erect a barracks with six f-mall bedrooms, one common mess room, one assembly room, and one kitchen, at an estimated cost of £SOO. The Finance Committee recommend that the sum of £2O be placed on the estimates for the year 1906-07 to be granted as a contribution to the fund ~of tlve Otsigo League, and report that tbev have granted the application of Mr D. M. Spedding te deposit the sum of £7OO. interest at tlie rate of 4 per cent, to "he allowed until allotment of debentures in the Waipori loan ; Mr Spedding to pay average price of debentures, but not less than par, and in the event' of Mr Spedding not taking debentures- no interest- to be'paid on deposit. The Teport also states that authority has been granted to print in pamphlet form the acting town clerk's report an civic administration hi the City of Dtracdin.
