MINING NEWS.

It i« reported that a seventh share'in the Gold King dredging party, whose claim is at Dumbarton Rock, near Roxburgh, recently changed hands at £4SS. A correspondent informs us that the Pomahaka River, above Kelso, is now claiming some attention as a dredging centre. The Kelso Syndicate's dredge (formerly the Happy Valley) has just mado a start in thai and already another claim has been marked off and arrangements entered into for prospecting lamd belonging to a freeholder. The Inchdale dredge will, in all probability, at an early date be shifted to a. claim en - the Pomahaka River. Onr Lawrence correspondent informs ns that a Clyde mining syndicate are detormiuod to give the Praser Basin, towards the head of the Fraser River, a further trial, and with that object in view have acquired M'Kerrzie and party's hydraulic plant on the Pomahaka River. A few years ago a registered mining company, with its headquarters at Lawrence, went to some expense m acquiring water rights and in putting a plant on a claim at Fraser's Basin, but after carrying on operations for some time it was fonnd that the results were far from satisfactory, and the company eventually liquidated. "Those aicquainted with the ueighborhocl hold to the belief that a good ran of gold exists in the Basin. At a sitting of the Warden's Conrt at Waikaia last Tnesday. the application of Mr Peter Gordon (of "Dunedin) for a right to twenty-five heads of water out of Dome Creek, to work a claim on the Muddy Creek terraces, was finally dealt with. The application came before the Court at a prior sitting, when it was held over until compensa't-on was fixed by assessors, who recommended that £220 be paid to Mr Black (rtmhokler), £2O to Mr GiUandere, and £25 to Mr M*Lennan. At the same sitting of the Waikaia Warden's Court, Mr Gordon's application for a special claim of fifty acres on the Moddv Creek terraces was also dealt with. Atthoprevions sitting of the Court Mr F. Hamer objected to Mr Gordon's application on the ground that the claim had not been properly pegged off, and that land outside the n.T>olica£ion had been wrongly incladed in the survey. The warden visited the claim, saw the pegs for himself, and, in giving his decision, held thai Gordon'e pegging off was not faulty, but that he had no right to the n«w ground covered bvthcsnrvey. He dismissed Gordon's application, "and recommended the Minister of Mines to grant the claim to Hamer. THE SHARE MARKET. BTOtKMST exchaxgt;. This morning's sates:—Golden Bed 19/6, 19/6, 19/6.
