TO THE EDITOR Sir, —I see by your Friday’s issue that some complaint has broken out in the slum known as the Assyrian quarter, and that Dr Ogston has the matter in hand. Seeing that a portion of these houses have been condemned thrice already, it is a pleasing fact that the health authorities are waking up at last. Had these places stood on any land but that belonging to wealthy absentees, they would have been razed long ago. There is not another town in New Zealand that would tolerate them-—T am etc., e.H.
