VICTORIA v. NEW SOUTH WALES. The above intcr-State match was begun at Sydney yesterday (Anivcrsary Day) in fine, ■mol weather. The heavy rain of the previous day made the wick't favorable for the bowlers at first, bub the wicket improved later.

Victoria had lost two wickets for 115 runs when stumps were drawn. Eilis made 40, and Macalister was not out with 51. CANTERBURY v. SOUTH CANTERBURY. This match was continued at Timaru yesterday, but owing to heavy rain play had to cc-ase at 5 p.m., and the game was consequently drawn. Scores :—South Canterbury. 59 and 55 for six wickets ; Canterbury, 359 (J D. Lawrence, not out, 129, W. Patrick 82). In the second innings of South Canterbury Malone captured four wickets at a cost of 32 runs, Read two for 20, and Lawrence one for 1. NEW ZEALAND v. MELBOURNE. The question of the appointment of a selector for the above match was considered at a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council on Thursday eveninc. The Chairman (Dr Thomas) stated that the Council had to appoint a selector or selectors to choose t]:e team to represent New Zealand against the Melbourne team. Mr Fowke said that he had had experience both as solo selector and a s a member of a selection committee, and he believed that the committee were always better able than the solo selector to decide fine points. Ho moved chat a selection committee of three should be appointed. This was seconded by Mr lL.rma.iy and carried.

Messrs F. J. Ohlson (Auckland), J, Wheatley (Canterbury), J, Baker (Otago), C. Richardson (Wellington), J. N. Powko (Canterbury), and G. G. Austin (Otago) Acre nominated as selectors, and a ballot resulted in the election of Messrs Baker Richardson, and Wheatlev. ’
