Mr William Baker, Chancery barrister, has accepted the directorehip of the late Dt Barnardo's Homes for Destitute Lods. Miss Chrissie Barr, A.T.C.L., pupil of Miss Yorston, has received word from Trinity College, London, that she lias been successful in passing the examination for practical licentiate, and is now entitled to the diploma of L.T.C.L. [385 ] A sad tramway fatality occurred on tiho Cliristchurch-Sumner line about haH-paet five o'clock yesterday afternoon, resulting in the instantaneous death of a young man named Thomas George Marsh, conductor of the tram. Marsh was in the act of crossing from one car to anotiher when he slipped and fell between the two cars. The back car ran over him, and his skull <nd iipioe were ■ fractured and his body badly bruised, death being Jnstantanooua. The txam, which consisted of a steam engine and two cars, was running about eight miles an hour at tha time of the accident.
