AUCKLAND PROSPECTS. “Our Own” at Auckland is of opinion that tho Government will probably wrest the Kaipara, Waikato, and Ohinemnri seats from the Opposition, hot will lose Auckland City, whkih will prove on easy win I for Mr Parr. A dose content is expected between Messrs Bagnall (0.) and A. Kidd, M.H.R., for Auckland Central; and Mr Stewart (M.) will give Mr Kirkbride. the ; silting member, a good run for Manukau. Mr A. R. Adams’s Roslyn Committee met !in the committee room on Friday. Mr H. W. APC’oll presided. Tlve various incru- , bevs who had been in charge of the comnnt- | tee rooms since last meeting stated that a | number of electors had taken advantage of the opportunity which the committee rooms afforded to inspect the rolk The conveners in charge of tho Roslyn and Kaikorai districts reported that they had their work well in band, and would shortly be in a position to report as to Mr Adams’s chances in that district. It was decided to pay special attention during the next few weeks to roll work, as members were continually coming in contact with elector's who were not on tho roll. In some cases residents declared that men had called, and the enrolment forms had been tilled in, and they had been given to understand that there was no need for ;my farther worry on their part, and it. came as a great surprise to find that they were not enrolled. A request from a number of mill hands that Mr Adorns should give; an address to the workers during the dinner hoar was approved of. Considerable discussion also took place as to the meet suitable date tor Mr Adams to give an address in the Kaikorai district. Tile Chairman stated that there was a large number of local residents working in Mr Adams’s interest, and from tho reports presented, and of his own experiences, he was confident of success. A meeting of gentlemen, favorable to the return of Mr K. Q. Allen for Chalmers was held on Friday in the Coronation Hall, Rawnsbourne. Mr T. Boss was appointed ol,,,irnian, M c K. Kellett secretary, and a strong committee formed, comprising Messrs Barker, Dunn, Booth, Cray, George, Blackie, Crawley, and Churchill. Owing to the wet night, a good many ladies were prevented from attending. It was therefore decided to meet at 8.30 ou .Monday night, when ladies specially are invited to attend, and the work in Itaud will bo vigorously gone into. [it spite of the inclemency of the weather ou Friday, Mr Win. Pryor's meeting at Sawyers Bay was attended by a good number of electors. Mr A. Cirishohu, who presided, introduced the speaker. who received a very sympathetic hearing A hearty vote of thanks to .Mr Pryor for his able speech, moved by Mr K. Johnston and seconded by Mr J.' Mobfaerly. was put to tho mooting and carried unanimously. Tho Farmers’ Union Executive intend submitting to candidates test questions anent giving Crown tenants tho freehold, jdus the addition of an amount to equalise their payments (with interest added) with those of occupation-with-right-uf-purchafe tenants, and retaining the present country franchise. Mr Grecnslade, the Liberal candidate for Waikato, favors optional freehold for all Crown tenants
Mr W. T. Jotmmgs, the sitting member for Egmont, addressed a packed house at Inglewood on Friday night. He declared himself a cwntnnied supporter of the Government. He would not interfere with the licensing laws; was against Bible-rend-ing in schools; in favor of expenditure on airricultnml education; favored restoration of tho deferred-payment system, and was a strong supporter of the freehold. He pledged himself unccmfitiooidly to vote against Ids party, if necessary, in support of tlie freehold tenure. He refused to say whether bo would accept a seat in the Upper House if he were defeated at the election. A very enthusiastic meeting of Mr William Pryors North-east Vajey Committee was held in tho committee rooms, Northeast Valley, ou Saturday evening, when the room was overcrowded with workers, all willing to do their best in securing Air Pryors return. Arrangomenta were made for a systematic canvass of the district, and those who have been already canvasamg reported meet favorably of the districts gone over. Air Thomas AI. Stephens has announced his candidature for the Newtown seat. Owing to Parliament extending into this week, Mr James Allen will not begin his Bruce campaign till Thursday, when he speaks at Berwick.
