The ‘Leisure Hour’ (New Zealand Bible, Tract, and Book Society) for September has, among its many interesting features, articles on ' The Diplomatic Corps iu London,’ * A Cycle Bun to Romo,’ ‘ Radium and the Sun,’ ‘ The Welsh Regiment,’ ‘ Six Years at the Russian Court.’ 1 John Wesley, Evangelist,' ■ The Battle of Waterloo,’ ‘ The Critic on the Hearth,’ and a continuation of Leslie Keith’s serial. Short stories, poems, and interesting notes, as well as a'wealth of illustrations, photographs, and portraits, make up an admirable number. The ‘Girl’s Own Paper’ (New Zealand Bible. Tract, and Book Society) for September has additional chapters of two serial stories and two complete tales. AU seasonable novelties are touched upon and all kinds of tastes catered for. Amusement, the home circle, outdoor and indoor life each receive some attention in the way of bright comment or cheerful illustration. Among the fare submitted may be noted, in addition to the pictorial material, essays on ‘ Sea Anemones,’ ‘ Impressions of Palestine,’ ‘ Ladies of the Sitnart Period,’ ‘The Teeth,’ ‘Sympathy Guild.’ and correspondence. The. ‘Boy’s Own Paper’ (New Zealand Bible, Tract, and Book Society) for Sep i tember has not only novels of daring,' 1 escape, and peril, which are illustrated by telling drawings and appealing eoisodes, but matters closely toucuing the : life of youth on its mechanical, ingenious, 1 and sport-loving side are plentifully provided. Instruction as well as fun, and mental as well as physical entertainment are generously considered. .We may mention in this connection ‘ Telegraphy Without Wires,’ ‘ Boys Who Have Risen,.’ ‘ Medium-pace Bowling.’ ‘ Chinese Boys and Their Ways,’ and ‘ Dogs that Work.’ The number is replete with interest . The ‘Sunday at Home’ (New Zealand Bible, Tract, and Book Society) for Sep tember continues Mr J. Hocking’s tale of the Stuarts. ‘The Chariots of the Lord’: the Rev. E. J. Hardy, author of ‘ How To E-e Happy Though Married,’ has an article on ‘ Self-control ’; there is an ip terosting poem and prose contribution, in which is discussed the probable position of Margaret Wilson and Margaret Lanchlan when tied to stakes fixed in the Solway Firth ; whilst ‘ A Happy Girl’s School in Melanesia’ and ‘The Conversion of Admiral Coligny ’ will prove excellent reading. Sunday-school work, illustrations, short stories, and essays help make up an acceptable magazine. We have also received from the local firm the ‘ Child’s Companion,’ ‘ Every Boy’s Monthly,’ ‘ Little Dots,’ ‘ Friendly Greetings, the ‘ Cottager and Artisan,’ Mr G. L. Denmston sends ns an illustrated booklet got up by the Paraffine Paint Company at the Lewis and ClarK Exposition. The intention is to direct notice to the maJthoid roofing, which was used exclusively in the construction of the buildings shown.
