Evening Sports The chib held a series of ten evening sports meetings during the season, and in every respect these meetings were a complete success. A feature of the meetings was the teams’ relay races, which were exceedingly popular, and which furnished capital contests. The special prises awarded to the member of the D.AIA.C. securing moat points for the series seudted in a tie between H. Bark and R. E. Brown, with 12 points each. Annual Sports The twentieth annual sports of >tbd clttb mw hold on il 9& the Caledonian Ground. The weather was perfect, fie attendance excellent, the racing was splendid, the meeting bemgin every respect a highly successful one. The principal event of the day, the 220 yds Champion ship of Otago and Southland, furnished magnificent racing. The event was run in heats, the final resulting in a dead heat between P. H. Harthtnd (Christchurch) and E. B. Fraser (Oamorn). Burk’s fine performances created enthusiasm, and were a feature of the meeting. The presence of Messrs P. H. Hartland (Christchurch), Donsey (Ashburton), E. B. Fraser (Oamaxu), and G. Gunn (Timaru), all of whom acquitted- themselves with success, lent additional interest to the meeting. Standard badges were won by H. G. Burk, who won {be one-mile flat in 4mm 35-gsec (standard time being 4min 36sec). and B. E. Brown, who competed the half-mile walk in 3mm 26sec (standard time being 3min 30sec). Visit of World’s Champions.—The'first international championship meeting held in New Zealand took place at the Carisbrook Ground on the 11th March. The star attraction was A. Duffey, and his feat in breaking the world’s record on grass for 50yds—which he won in the magnificent time of s|seo—created tile greatest enthusiasm amongst the- large number present. Of the I). A.A.C. performers, H. Burk, with his fine performance in the half-mile (in which be established an Australasian record. Ijnin SSJscc, for the distance), W. J. O’Kane, J. T. Hamann, A. Hoare, and H. Murray worthily upheld the honor of the club, 'whilst of the new members I. MUracken and A. E, Shand secured winning honors. Now Zealand Championship Meeting.— This meeting was held at Christchurch on the 17lh and 18th March. Otago was well represented, and H, Burk and J. M’Lachlan upheld the best traditions of the clnb. Burk’s win in the Mi!© Championship, in which lie defeoied the redoubtable Slmibb, wae one of the most popular at the meeting, and lie in to be congratulated upon his performance, not only in- defeating Shrubb, but hi creating a new record for the mile—namely, 4miu 27|sec. J. M’Lachlan’s win in the Pole Jump Championship was also a popular win Donations to the Club.—We desire to thank Messrs P. S. K. Macassey, J. Sinclair Thomson, Tl. B. Courtis, and Dr Batchelor, sen., for donations to toe club’s funds; also Dr Roberts and Mr Ben Fuller for challenge cups; Messrs F. J. Townsend and J. Blaney and tb© Caledonian Society for donations to the sports fund, and Mr S. Jacobs for special prize for evening races. Open Events.—The club’s thanks are due to the Dunedin Cycling Club, University Clnb, Otago Boys’ High School Committee, and the Labor Day Committee for including amateur events upon their programmes.
