KAIKORAI BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Kalkorai Baptist Suaday School celebrated its twentieth anniversary last evening. Special sermons were preached on Sunday—in the morning by the pastor, the Rev. M. J. B. Bennett, B. A t awl in the evening by the Bev. H. Mahon. Jn the afternoon the Rev. A. N. Scatter gave an address on ‘ battle Things.* A large ÜBjaber of scholars, parents, and friends sat down to tea last evening. The tables, which were prettily decorated with flowers, were presided over by the lady teachers and senior scholars. • At the subsequent meeting the pastor occupied the chair, and addresses were given by the Rev. D. S. Mason on ‘The Value of Sunday School Work,’ and by Mr William Inga on 'Thinking Rightly.’ Misses Dewhirat and PeUett sang two duets, and a number of recitations and sacred songs were given by the scholars, under the conductorship of Mr W. Kroon. Miss Carpenter accompanied on the organ. Those who recited were Misses Olive Oliver, Elizabeth Abemetby, Daisy Clark, Winnie Wakelin, Bnhina, Webster, Grace Mitchelhill, and Mr Fred Hodgkisa. The annual report; which was read by the secretary (Mr Angus Chisholm), showed that the average attendance of scholars and teachers baa been good, the teachers displaying great faithfulness to'the duties they had undertaken. A junior Christian Endeavor Society of twenty-five members, and bearing the name of Daniel’s Band, had been commenced under the leadership of Mr W. Maraden, aided by other teachers. The library had been enriched by the addition of about fifty books, twenty-nine of which were purchased with the proceeds of an entertainment given by Daniel’s Band, the remainder being the gifts of friends. Nine scholars sat for the Otago Sunday School Union examination, and gained four prizes and four certificates. The highest number of marks in this examination had been gained by Elizabeth Wakelin, one of the scholars of t-be school, who obtained 99 per cent. In the Baptist Union»examination Miss Carpenter gained a certificate in the first division with 84 per cent, of marks. For the fourth year in succession a Christmas box has been prepared for sending to the New Zealand Baptist missionaries in India. The box contains a large number of articles useful in missionary work. THo teachers and scholars who prepared it were assisted by valuable contributions of goods and work from members of the church and friends. Hie articles were on view in one of the dus rooms, and presented a pretty appearance. The balance-sheet, which had wen prepared by Miss J. Cunningham, showed that the finances of the school were in a healthy condition. At the close of the meeting tin prizes wore presented to the successful scholars.
