INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANTS

The annual meeting of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants was held at Wellington yesterday. The president (Mr P. Barr, Dunedin) expressed a hop© tint legislation providing for the recognition of the profession of accountancy would be passed this session, and went on to define the position taken up iu regard to examinations by the various Australian institutes. He felt that in Now Zealand they could not afford to continue connection with a system which had given rise, with or without justification, to such widespread suspicion of unfair treatment, unless they were absolutely assured; that there woiud be no repetition of - tb© trouble. There were two courses open for them in the future-—either to have examination papers set in New Zealanu, or to make arrangements with examinees in Australia or Great Britain. He favored the latter alternative. The following members of the Council retired, and wore re-elected Group A, Mr C. P. Powlea; group B, Mr W. W. Brown; groan C, Mr W. H. Gundry; group D, Mr •luuam Brown; group E. Mr E. N- IrtffHon. Th© second member elected for group E was Mr W. A. Ryan, who succeeds Mr W. T. Irvine. It was decided to bold th© next annual meeting at Auckland.
