A mesa enthusiastic meeting of farmers was held at Kaitangata on Thursday afternoon, for the purpose of forming a br-jntrh of the New Zealand Farmers' JJnion. Some tweiiiy i>rrsons were present. Mr Jas. RuU.ev;.j;-u presiding. Lists were handed in :,igi.o;i by forty fanners signifving tlve'r wiilinjr.csa to becom« members. Mr Prain. the provincial secretary and organiser, explained the general working of the Union and prospects in regard to mutual firo insurance, after which it was unanimously resolved to form a branch, to be. named the Kaitangata Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union." The following officers were then elected :—Chairman, Mr Jas. Rutherford: vice-chairman. Mr A. Morrison : secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Smaill : Committee —Messrs John Haygart, J. B. Brown, T. Johnson, jun., T. Fraaer, G. Aitchison. M. Morrison, J. P. Rutherford, Jaa. Bell; delegate U Provincial Conference, Mr James Rather> f%rd.
