SLIPS
A SERIOUS STATE OP THINGS. MANGAWEKA, June 7. The slips on the Taihape line have been -sufficiently removed to allow trains to get through. A number of men engaged on the big slip had a narrow escape. They had been working' in a narrow defile, and had left to have a meal. On returning they found that hundreds of tons of earth’ had come down, burying their belongings. Had the men not left when they did, there would ! have been a serious .accident to chronicle, as a great portion of the hillside came down without warning. It is statedl that the'top of one of the largest tunnels is in danger through the possibility of further slips, whidh may block tho line for weeks. / A COACH GOES OVER. KAWHAI, Juno 7. The mail coach hud a narrow escape on I Friday last. A slip had occurred on the mountain road, and Driver Watts went over the bank with the coach and five horses. There were two passengers, Mre Cowan and Mia M; Gibson. The gnllv wga about 40ft deep. The only damage done was to Ore pole, which was broken.
