CITY COUNCIL REPORTS
The following is a summary of the reports to be prerented at to-morrow night's sitting of the City Council:— The Public Works Committee recommend that the Dowling street footpath, above the steps, be asphalted for a distance of 4A chains, cost. £10; that 300 yds of rotten rock and 750 yds of metal be granted for repairing Anderson Bay road, cost £2OO. The Water Committee report having instructed Mr Jas. A. Park to offer the eum of £225 to Mr E. Tanner in full'settlement of his claim in connection with the waterworks extension, such sum to» include purchase money for a piece of bush land through which Ross Creek flows, offered for sale by Mr Tanner to the Council. ..Tlie Reserves Committee recommend that a five-roomed house be erected for the, sexton of tihe Eastern Ceme.terv. Application has been made to the Dunedin Ocean Beach Domain Board for consent to the transfer of that portion of the Domain between Tahuna Park and the Eastern Cemetery to the City Council, with the view to extending the cemetery and providing a reserve for recreation purposes. A letter of thanks has been sent to Messrs Burton, Limited, Christchurch, for their donation of palms, violets, iris, and heath to the Botanic Gardens. The, Gas Committee recommend that one' ton each of pleutonic cement and stickphast, at a cost of about £lO, and 600 ft of retorts, at a cost of about £l5O, be ordered for maintenance works at the gasworks; that three rets of flue tiles be procured diract from the makers in England, at a probable cost of £IOO, for renewal of regenerators at gasworks; that Mr C. Suggate's offer to furnish a modified report oil the gasworks at a charge of £lO 10s be accepted. The General Committee recommend that the wages of Thomas Broomfield, engaged in sanitary work, Gaversham Ward, be increased from 50s to 55s per week. Mr R. R. Donaldson, inspector of nuisances, lias •been instructed to supervise the sanitarv work in Cavershom and South Dunedin Wards. The Committee recommend that new uniforms be granted to the Dunedin City Fire Brigade, and that Mr John Barron be appointed an inspector of nuisances and of passenger and other licensed vehicles (ircluding tramway carriages) for the City of Dunedin. The Tramways Committee recommend that alterations be made to the tram track at the junction of Main SoutSi road and Princes street. The amount of penalty imposed on Mr J. J. Jones in connection with his contract for widening Forbury road has been reduced to £ll 8s 4d During the fortnight ended 28th May, 1905, the traffic returns for the tramways, as compared with the corresponding period for last year,'were as follow:—Receipts: 1905, £1,713 6s lOd; 1904, £1,466 13s Bd. Mileage: 37,709 miles 33 chains; 30,709 miles 27 chains. The Finance Committee report having granted permission to a committee of the Dunedin volunteers to expend the sum of £lO out of the Andrews bequest fund for additional works' at the Pelich'et Bav rifle range.
