MORNINGTON GYMNASTIC CLUB

In eubmifctrng their fourth annual report, the Committee regret their inability to furnish as successful a report as that presented the previous year. The club have been very unfortunate in losing several of the hard-working members through bnsi-l-.ess, transfers, sickness, and other causes, and on this account were unable to enter a team for the usual banner competition held by the Association. This was regretted very much, as at each competition the crab have held a very high position. However, the work of the club baa progreased, and tie varied) exercises set by Captain Galloway seemed to have been enjoyed by the members more so than the hard preparation' required by a competition. The usual competitions in connection with the club were held during the season, and the work done by the senior members showed in a marked degree that they had progressed. The winner of the Senior Handicap w<as Mr W. Watts, who baa been on exceedingly honest worker since the inception of the club. The Junior Handicap was won by K Jackson, and the work done by the young members in this competition was a 'decided advance on previous years. A gold medal was presented by Mr J. H. Thomson for tie champion junior, and the winner turned up in T. Thomson, who has all along shown great promise as a gymnast. Medals were also donated by Messrs W. Davidson and J. H. Ford, and won by J. Thomson and W. Rutherford respectively. The thanks of the dub are due to the president, Mr E. Nicholson, who at all times rendered valuable assistance and took the greatest interest in the "work of the club. The club are also indebted to Messrs J. H. Thomson, W. Davidson, J. H. Ford, W. Wills, and T. M'Crorie for donations and' personal interest shown during the season. In the departure from Dunedin of Mr A. E. Chapman the club have lost a very energetic member of committee, and one who at all times took the greatest interest in tho management of the dub. The "dub have also lost the services of the deputy-captain} Mr J. S. Wares, who is at the present time exceedingly ill, and very probably will not be able to start gymnastics again this season. The death of Mr J. Clarke, the club's late treasurer, caused another gap in the Committee, and members snob as those mentioned can be Ell spared. In placing the report of the year's work before the members, the Committee trnst thak a great effort will be made to uphold tibe nigh state.to which -the crab have been raised by tho untirintr efforts of Captain Galloway and Deputy-captain Wares.
