FATHER HAYS'S VISIT
A meeting of. those interacted in fanning a committee to arrange for a reception t<i the Rev. Father Hays on the 20th inst was held in the Council Chambers, Port Chalmers, last evening The chair waj taken by the mayor (Mr D. A. De Mans), and the gathering included the Rev. E. G Tennent, Messrs E. G. Alien, M.H.R., J. Tait, G. L. Anher, W. Mawson, W. Bom, and eoms thirty others. Apologies ■were received for the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Mr Taylor, Rev. Father Howewl, Messrs Powell and A. Cable.—The Rev, Mr Tennent pointed oat that it was grate customary to extend public recognition to men whose talent 6 had rendered than am. nent amongst their fellows, and the least they eould do -was to extend a welcome to one who had done so mnch for his fellow creatures as had the Rev. Father Hays Those present resolved to form themsetaa into a committee to make the necessary arrangements, and it was decided that the Rfev. Father Hays should be,welcomed by a committee representing the whole of the citizens. Mr W. Horn was appointed secretary. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Tennent a snb-committee, consisting of the Rev.-Father Howard,- the Rev. Mr Taytor, * the Rev. Mr Ward, His Worship the Mayor, Mr E. G. Men, M.H.R., Mr W.
