SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers District High School Committee was held yesterday evening ; present—Messrs J. M’Lochlan (chairman), W. Ewan, J. Harlurvi, J. Mill, J. Smaill, A, Thomson, and W. Hunter. Correspondence from the Education Board was received re half-cost of erecting store shed and repairs to the janitor’ s residence. Th© rector reported that Misses C. Campbell, E. D. Williams, D. L. Hammond, J, Mackay, and J. G.’ Rermie were sucessful in passing matriculation examination. The success of these pupils was considered very gratifying, and it was decided to write the rector expressing satisfaction at the good results, and asking him to give the Committee’s best wishes to th© candidates, successful ami unsuccessful, trusting that the latter will persevere, and do better next time. The store shed at the school was nearly completed, and should prove very useful to the school. Arrangements in connection with the annual picnic, to be held at Waikortaiti on the 15th inst., are now in a forward state, and this year’s picnic should be in every way up to the standard of that of _ previous years. It was decided to write to tho Corporation calling their intention to the dangerous state of the lootpath at the janitor’s residence, and asking them to have this matter attended to. Messrs Banohop and Hunter were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month. The monthly meeting of the Macandr&w road School Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs Bhacldock (chairman), Dickson, Devlin, Harman, Gillies, Dalton, and Williams (secretary). The Works Committee were authorised to put in a few repairs at the school The delegates to the Conference were authorised to vote in favor of ih© teachers’ superannuation scheme. The matter of the annual school picnic was gone into, and it was resolved that it he held on February 18 at Evansdale. A vote of thanks was accorded the head-master and school staff for the able manner in which tliey managed the school break-up concert.
