TOURIST TRAFFIC TO ROTORUA.
rSPECEA! TO TOT SX£&]
AUCKLAND, January 1L The ' says that during the last few week's there has been a very marked improvement in the tourist traffic of th« colony. There are usually & great numbe* of people travelling during this month, and people arriving of late have been very numerous. The hotels at Botorua and Okoroire have reported themselves well fiSed, and crowded on some days, for weeks past, and it begins to look as if the expectatjona of the early {season, which the wet weather rather discounted, were Qkery to be realised. Monday hj generally a big tourist day in Auckland, for the Sydney and East Coast boats bring in large numbers. The Sydney boat on this trip brought many sightseers, and the hotelkeepers are reapin tr a small harvest in consequence. In the early part of the season the people com. mercially concerned in the tourist traffic wen •intensely disappointed at the smallness oi it, and attributed the failure to bad weather. They had laid in huee stocks of goods saleable only to the tourist, and there was consequently a glut. Thingß are now beginning to improve" noticeably.
