STATE BANKING.

TO THE KSITOR. Sir,—l Tegr.et the slip, as "W.H." avers. Of -what use, however, will it be making it a plank of the Labor platform when the present' leader, the Premier, does not favor State banking? The idea in the past has •been to legalise paper, withc-nt any gold reserve. To do this—as our largest creditors are outside New Zealand—would require an amendment of our Constitution through the British Parliament, and, needless to say, this would never be allowed. It would mean repudiation. By all means discuss the question, in order to demonstrate the fallacy—-that is, if the editor will allow " W.H." (or someone else) to lead off •with an affirmative.—l am, etc., F.M. January 11.
