Achilles's full-brother Sea Lion and Tiroie arc to arrive from the North Island this wesk, and to go into Derrett's stable. A half-brother by Mannlicher to Miretta has joined Langley's team. Mason, who got home on Saturday, will leave for Wellington this week to superintend Nightfall's preparation at the Hutt. He will probably take with him Golden lily and Munject to fulfil their respective engagements at the meeting. There is some doubt as to whether Nightfall will start for the Cup. the opinion being that her mission may be some of the shorter distance events.

Of Sir George Clifford's horses which ran ■it Auckland, To-morrow and Signalman, being amiss, will come straight home. Qoanyrean and Vein will remain at Wellington to race there, and will be joined by a detachment from Ricoarton comprising Stronghold and Glenowlct, and possibly Bonnie Brae. Holmes's team returned from Auckland yesterday, and the Riccarton contingent which took part in the West Coast meetings are expected home this evening. The Guesser was sore after his return from Dunedin, but is now sound and well. MDonald haying left his employ to take service with the Hon. G. Mljean, Mr J. A. Holmes has had to make fresh arrangements for his team. He has sent Terrapin and Royal Crown up to his station for a rest, and has placed Hilarity in Taggart'a hands. By the way, it does not look now as if Taggart contemplated abandoning the profession. In addition to Hilarity, he has Slow Tom and Zealous in work, but he has sold Lolah to Mr Orbell, of Waikouaiti. Mr Hobbs and Mr R. Allen returned from Auckland on Saturday. The three yearlings knocked down to Hobbs were purchased on behalf of the partnership recently registered between the pair. Lewis has bad yet another addition to his team in the shape of a gelding by Conqueror from All Saints.

Master Alis is making excellent progress in his preparation for his Wellington enga cements. Tho pony Man jess is suffering from lameness in his shoulder.

The two-year-old Handel, who has been restinsr, has resumed work.

Nothing at Riccarton is moving more freely just now than Stepdancer. Mr Chadwick seems to have made an excellent handicap for the Wellington Cup. Mahutonga, Red Gauntlet, Nightfall, Quarryman, and Ghoorka all look to possess a chance if they start. A friend 'Who was present at the Auckland meeting tells me that, in his opinion, was beaten when she fell in tha Derby. I regret to hear that Mr H. A. Knight contemplates abandoning racing. He has terminated D. Roberts's engagement aa private trainer. CRICKET. The unfinished match Dunedin. v. Port will be continued on the Caledonian Ground to-morrow, at 6 p.m. Acceptances for tho summer meeting of the Gore Racing Club close on Saturday, at 8 p.m.
