A MARRIAGE BY MINORS
An application, for substituted service against a respondent in divorce was made to Mr Justice Hodges, sitting in Chamber* at Melbourne the other day. The mat was one brought by Elizabeth Ada Robertson, otCariton, against Henry Hay Robertson, traveller, and it appeared that tire parties were both minora at the time of marriage, and had never lived together. The wedding took place in Sydney on October 26, 1900. The husband and wife, who are now twenty-two years of age, were then eighteen; After the ceremony they had' refreshments, and did some shopping, and then separated, the petitioner returning to Melbourne on the understanding that the respondent was to make a home for her. Affectionate correspondenoe continued for several months, but the husband and wife never saw one another again, and now ti» wife is petitioning for divorce-on the ground of desertion. Mr A. E. Jones, for the l>etitioner, applied for substituted serviceyas the petitioner had not been, able to discover tho respondents whereabouts, and the order was made, the papers to be served on the respondent's mother in Melbourne, and the matter to be advertised in the roomine papers. 6
