Waiwera, Whangape, Moura, Aotea (steam). ‘ The Tarawera took in cargo and emImrked passengers at the cross wharf today, and sailed for Auckland via East Coast ports in the afternoon. t The Westralia, from Sydney via Cook Strait, is expected to arrive at 11 a,m. to-morrow, and will berth at the cross wharf. She sails from Dunedin for Melbourne at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The ‘New Zealand Times’ states that Mr W. Benson, purser of the HuddartParker steamer Victoria, who went ashore recently through illness, was able to leave the Wellington Hospital on Monday last. The Queen Helena, after discharging in New Zealand, is, according to the Sydney ‘ Commercial News,’ to load coal at Newcastle for Manila. The brigantine Sarah and Mary, which recently struck the Mannkan bar, was sold by auction at Auckland last Saturday (says the Post ’). and was bought as she lies on the bar by Mr John Harrison. of Kaipara. The price paid was £lO6. The Federal-Honlder-Slrire liner Ayrshire, _ from Liverpool via Cape Town. Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, *is due here about the end of the present week. This handsome steamer, which is now on her second voyage to New Zealand, is making her first visit to Lyttelton. The Ayrshire, which is practically a new vessel, is a twin-screw steel four-masted steamer of 7,252 tons gross and 4,655 tons net register, her principal dimensions being— Length 460 ft, beam 58.8 ft, depth 31.8 ft. She was built at Newcastle, England, by Messrs Hawthorn, Leslie, and Co., Ltd., and was launched in November last year! Her owners are the EUerslie Steamship Company, Ltd. (Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co., managers), of Glasgow. Her propelling machinery consists of two triple expansion engines of 893 nominal horsepower, the diameter of the cylinders being 25in, 42in, and 71in respectively, with a stroke of 48in, steam being supplied by five large steel boilers working at 2(X)Ib pressure. Her engines were built by the North-east Marine Engineering Company, Ltd., of Newcastle. The vessel is fitted with the most modem appliances for the quick handling of cargo, and with refrigerating machinery and electric light. There is also excellent accommodation for passengers. The Ayrshire left Liverpool on September 17 at 6 pan., and after a fine passage arrived at Las Palmas at 10 a.m. on September 23. After coaling she left at 11 p.m. the same day. The Equator was crossed in longitude lOdeg W., and Cape Town was reached at daylight on October 9. Fine weather was experienced daring the whole voyage, . Owing to the Ayrshire being detained at Lyttelton, she is not expected to arrive before Sunday, The Aotea is receiving overhaul at Port Chalmers. The Whangape had her mast unshipped to-day at the George street pier. The Whangape had her most unshipped at the wharf under the sheer-legs this forenoon. Farewell Spit reports that the Taieri, for Wellington, passed at 4.35 a.m. to-’ dav. " i THE DIRECT STEAMERS. The Gothic, from London, arrived at Hobart at 5 p.m. yesterday, and was to sail for Wellington at 6 pan. to-day.
