HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD
The ordinary meeting of the High Schools Board of Governors was held last evening, and attended by Dr Shand (in the chair), the Hon. T. Fergus, Dr Church, and Mr J. M. Gallaway. Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, wrote that he would be unable, owing to engagements, to preside at the break-up of the Boys’ High School. It was resolved that the Hon. T. Fergus should preside on the occasion, Messrs J. ADen, H. D. Bedford, E. G. Allen, .and J. A, Millar, M.H.R.s, wrote stating that as the Supplementary Estimates were passed when the Board’s letter reached them notliing could be done this session in the way of obtaining a grant for a new Girls’ High School. The writers were thanked for their replies, and it was resolved to ask them to continue their efforts next session. Mr 6. E. Bntler, drawing master, wrote that as he was leaving for England early next year he would not be able to continue his classes for drawing after the present term. He hoped the Board would continue this very necessary subject—The resignation was accepted with regret, and the Board placed on record their appreciation of Mr Butler s services.—lt was also reeolved to take steps to secure a successor to Mr Butler.
