Severe fighting has taken place in Portuguese West Africa. Trie Government troops onl ydefeated the Guanhama tribesmen after three days’ struggle. BOMBAY, September 29. The Ameer has abolished the old system of recruiting, and raises the rate of pay. Thirty thousand troops have been sent with guns to Herat to build a bridge over the River HUmand at Kandahar. Christiania, September 29. The Duke of Orleans,has applied to the Norwegian Government for permission to hire the ship Pram, wherein Nansen made his famous expedition, for an Arctic expedition in 1995. The request was granted, subject to Captain Sverdrup commanding.
