CORRUPTION AND JOBBERY. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, NEW YORK. September 22. An unprecedented event, wliich has created a sensation, has occurred in the State ot Alabama, where the Grand Jury sanctioned the indictment of twenty-six whites at Huntsville for lynching and a number of lesser offences. They also recommended the impeachment of the mayor, sheriff, and chief of police for not preventing lynching. Nobody has been punished in connection with the General Slocum disaster in New York Harbor or the Iroquois Theatre fire in Chicago. The officials of the latter, after a temporary scare, were ordered to pay the lawyers’ bills, whilst those persons who had cort'fied to the good condition of the General Slocum’s life-saving appliances are pernr feted to retain their posts. [The sister ship to the General Slocum, though reported to be equally inadequate to meet an emergency, continues to carry passengers.]
