The- High street Ladies’ Gymnastic Club held their annual handicap competition in tiie High street Gymnasium on Wednesday, when twenty competitors faced the judge’ The competition consisted of Indian club, dumb-bell, and wand exercises, and exercises on tlie parallels, boi*se, rings, and ropes. After a close competition tlm pride of place was secured by Miss E. Ross with 194 points. Miss Y. M'Beath (195 points, from scratch) being a, good second. Miss C. An enthusiastic preliminaiy meeting of those interested in forming a cricket club in Mornington was held last evening, when it was decided to roform (ho Mornington Cricket Club of some vears ago. A general meeting will be held next week, when it is hoped that all interested in tho welfare of the club will attend. HOCKEY'. Owing to the North v. The secretary of the Otago Centre is in receipt of word from the New Zealand Council stating that tho Council are compelled to drop the pro|>osal to invite a team of American and English athletes to tour tiie colony, owing to some of the interested unions being unable to find the necessary guarantee. The Council intend at once to bring forward another scheme for a visit of the team next year. LAWN TENNIS. Parker (Now Zealand) dropped out of the New South Wales Championship Singles after a, well-contested game with Pockley. Tho latter has steadily improved from the opening of the tournament. With two sets iu apiece, the deciding set was fought tenaciously, the local player havino- the, best of it with good net play. The result was a, win for Pockley. 6—4, 4—6 V 6;. 6 7 -3, PocUey and Rice are left in the final. In the Doubles, Parker and Miss Rracmer teat Griffiths and Miss Grafton 4—6, 5—2, 6—5. ’ The Tennis Associations of Australasia met yesterday at Sydney and appointed a committee to draft a, constitution to establish a T riinis Council, and aflirmcd the desirability of securing a visit from the Doherty brothers, the celebrated English plavers. A desire, was expressed to have Australasia represented iu England next year in the competition, for the Da-via cup. bL Andrew Harriers held their luree-mile Championship and Sealed Handicap Race at Forbuxy Park on Wednesday. The track was very heavy, but the race was run in good time. Nine competitors faced the starter (Mr W. Talboys). Clarke made the pace for the first quarter of a mile, but Christie and Willla™ TwbiaUy drew away from the pack, and Williams afterwards had it all his own way, Christie retiring at the end of tho lJusdi mik, Clarke, Guinness, and Gill were

running together till the end of tbe second mile, when Gill took tie lend for second place, and was never caught, although Clarke made a splendid sprint to overtake him in the run home. M’Cracken was the only other competitor to finish, running a very plucky race. The result was ns follows:—Championship: F. Williams 1, H. Gill 2,- A. L. Clarke 5. Scaled Handicap: A, E. Clarke (45sec) 1, J. Guinness (50sec) 2. F. Williams keeps the cup, valued at £4 4s, which he has won two years in succession. His time was 18min Bs.ee. At a committee meeting of the Dunedin Amateur Boating Chib, held last evening, Messrs M. Garden and James Crisp were elected to the vacancies on the Committee.
