THE GREAT MEAT STRIKE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. XEW YORK, July 26. (Received July 27, at 7.17 a.m.) Thirly-fivo trade unions are assisting the meat strikers. One hundred thousand men are now- on strike in eight cities. In reference to the recommendation of the MumcipaJ Conference that electric li.'ht wiremen should be examined and licensed the secretary of the Wellington Electrical Contractors' Association' has stated that there is only one proven instance of fire occurring in Wellington through electric lignt wiring, and this would not have occurred had there not been a 400 per cent, overload on the fuses—a matter that is beyond the control of wiremen once they have finished the work. He adds that his Association are of opinion that wiremen snould be licensed, but docs not think that np.unc.ipal authorities should have the bower of issuing (ho licenses
