THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

The Caledonian Society's annua] social was held in the band room of the Garrison Hall la.st evening. There was a lame attendance of members and visitors. Mr D. A. M'Nie-01l (president) occupied the chair, while the vice chair was filled by Mr R. Mackenzie. A most enjoyable evening yra? spent by one and all, the office-bearers of the society, as usual, being most assiduous in their attention to the wants of the members present. Apolotries for non-•■l'trndanrx! were received from Messrs John Gillies, A. Stoneham, A. Sligo, James Samson, R. Chisholm, and Norton. The toa.«ts» of the evening were as follow:—"The King," "The Armv, Navy, and Volunteers" (proposed by (he Chairman, and responded to bv Mnjor Murray and Captain M'lntl v) ; | " Kindred Societies" (proposed by Mr P. j Miller, and responded to by Mr J. B. ; Thomson, representing thn Burns Club, and Mr R. Mackenzie and Dr Gordon Mucdonnld. representing the Gaelic Society!: "The Veterans" (proposed by Mr Juries Brown, and responded to by Mesnr Jchn Wcdder-poon, R. Forrr-t, and J. B Thomson) ; "The Younser Members of th: Caledonian Soc : e'y" (proposed by Mr P. Miller, responded t.o bv Me?-rs J. D. Cani'Ton, Wilh, C. D. R. Richardson, and C. Grate-): "The Secretary" (proposed by Mr A. Gillies, and responded to by Mr W. Reid) ; " The Visitors," " The President," and " The Accompanist." During the evening sori/s were triven by Torrance D. M. Fea, D. Murray, "J. Harper, W. D. Wyatt, Wren, and P. Miller, and recitations were fumi?hed bv Messrs C. D. R. Richardson and J. Thornton Stewart, while interesting reminiscences were given by Mr J. B. Thomson and Captain M'lndoe. The gathering was brought to a close about e'even o'clock by the singing of 'Auld lang syne.' The accompaniments were played by Messrs D. Cooke and Towsev. ' ,
