A CHARTER AGAINST JEWS.
The charter 1 of Simon de Montford, expelling Jews from Leicester, which had been irissing for a long time, has just <onie into the possession of the Leicester Corporation. The principal clause in the charter Pins thus:—“ Know all of you that I have granted for the health of my soul and the souls of all my ancestors and successors, and by my. present charter I Lave confirm :d from me arid-my race for ever *o my burgesses of' Leicester and their ( heirs .’hat no Jew or my time” oc in the time of all my race to the endT of the world shall dwell or stay or have any residence within the liberty of thetown of Leicester.” Leicester has thought Letter of the Jews than Simon de Montfort. Within jecent. years, a Jew, Sir Israel Hart, has been four times mayor ot the town, and his kn'ghthobd was the reward of his rervicsb to Leicester.
