Owing to the heavy rain yesterday the work of loading the Suffolk was greatly delayed, owing to which she will not be’ able t<> leave for the Bluff until to-morrow forenoon. During the whole of last night and this morning a fresh S.E. wind was blowing, with frequent heavy squafls, owing to which a heavy S.E. sea was running at the Heads. 'J he Rakanoa continued discharging Iter coal cargo at the Jetty street wharf today. She is to sail to-morrow afternoon for the Bluff. -The Talune, from Auckland, is expected to apive hero early on Friday morning, and is to sail on the return trip on Friday afternoon. Captain Chaifleld, laic of the Moeraki, ■visited Gisborne recently. The captain, though he has retired f rom the Union Company’s service, ha/mg reached the age limit, is still halo and hearty, and a Gisborne gentleman who met him declares that he looks no older than ho (lid thirteen years ago last November, when in Gisborne roadstead he fought such a strenuous and splendid battle against the flames on the Wairarapa. East Cape reports that the Westralia passed south at 9.50 a.m. to-day. The Tvser steamer Hawke’s liay was sighted going south at ILSO a.m. The Pukaki, from the West Coast via (kunaru and Northern way ports, is ex-l-ccted Jto arrive hero on Thursday afternoon. With regard to the time taken to discharge cargo, the following particulars applying to the unloading of the New Zealand .Shipping Company’s vessels at Wellington are of interest: —The Paparoa landed between December 26 and January 6, on eleven working days, 5,850 tons of cargo; the Kaipara, between January 23 and January 30 (seven working days), 4,600 tons; the Turakina, between February 22 and February 27 (five working days), 4,400 tons; Ruapehu, between March 19 and March 25 (six working days), 2,600 tons; Rimutaka, between April II and April IS (four working days), 3,000 tons ; Toagariro, between May 9 and Mav 12 (three working days), 2,250 rims. A total of 29,700 tons of cargo was landed from these steamers in thirty-one working days, giving an average of 663 tons discharged per day. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
