HUNDREDS FIGHT THE FLAMES. Frees Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. ADELAIDE, January 13. A fire started at the ten-fathom level of Taylor’s shaft in the Wallaroo mine just as the afternoon shift were leaving.- The men escaped, it is understood, all safe. The flames spread to the poppet heads. The latest report says that all efforts so far have been confined to saving the poppets, which are burning fiercely. The extent of the fire below is unknown. Volumes of smoke arc issuing from the shaft. Hundreds of men are engaged fighting the fire. (Received January 14, at 10.8 sum.)

All the miners in the Wallaroo are safe. One. batch was coming np the shaft at the time of the outbreak, and had a narrow escape. The fire on the surface has been subdued, but it is still burning below. Its extent is unknown.
